Do you know heirloom or heritage varieties?

The main staple crops around the globe now rely on just a few species, with fewer varieties all the time. What does this mean for the genetic diversity of our food?

Our crops need this biodiversity to be able to adapt to change. And yet, genetic diversity is disappearing in agriculture, and thousands of varieties are under extinction.

Fortunately, there’s new interest in “heirloom” and “heritage” varieties. By growing them at home, you can discover some unusual varieties and help preserve the genetic diversity of our food.

It’s another way of cultivating biodiversity!
